연주곡

아이슬란드 작곡가이자 연주가인 Ólafur Arnald는 이전 클래식 포스팅에서 몇 번 추천해드린 아티스트입니다. 이 분야에서 가장 활발하게 활동하고 있는 아티스트인데요. 악기가 클래식 악기이긴 하지만, 크게 보면 클래식이지만, 클래식으로 보기 어려운  뉴에이적인 엠비언트 뮤직 장르의 확장된 영역을 보여주고 있습니다. 반복적이고 잔잔하고도 전형적인 타입같지만 그 안에서 변화되고 아름다운 선율들과 화음들이 묘하게 진행되면서 기존의 클래식의 뉴에이적인 대중성이 아닌 예술성이 좀 더 가미된 엠비언트 장르라고 생각하시면 될 것 같습니다. 이런 사운드의 피아노 작품들은 마음을 편안하게 해주죠. 새벽의 갬성과 잘 어울려요.

하니아 라니(*1990)는 폴란트 태생의 피아니스트이자 작곡가 입니다. 울라퍼 아르날즈(*1986)는 아이슬란스 태생의 피아니스트이자 작곡가입니다. 둘다 이쪽 계통에서는 꽤나 유명한 피아니스트이자 작곡가입니다. 사실 이들이 무엇을 공부를 했던 그들의 음악속에서 느껴지는 음악의 진정성이 중요한 것이죠. 아르날즈는 대중성이 좀 더 짙은 활동덕분에 더 많이 알려져 있기도 하지만 기본은 클래식을 바탕으로 작곡을 하고 있습니다. 

 

아르날즈나 라니의 음악적 행보가 더욱 독특한 것은, 기존의 클래식 연주를 하면서 자신만의 음악을 작곡하기 때문입니다. 피아니스트들 중에 이런 작업을 하는 이들은 거의 없지만, 반대로 작곡가들 중에서는 피아니스트로도 활동하면서 작업하는 사람들이 있는데 그런 부류라고 보시면 됩니다.

이전과 달라진 뉴에이지 감성의 엠비언트 음악들은 전자음악을 이용한다는 점 입니다. 물론 엔야나 다른 아티스트들도 전자음악을 겸했지만 좀 다른 의미에서 전자음악을 이용하고 있습니다. 현재 클래식 음악에서는 영상의 사용이 굉장히 흔하게 사용되고 있습니다. 뮤비적인 연출 이외에 실험적인 요소를 많이 포함하고 있기 때문이죠. 실험은 언제나 예술가들을 들뜨게 만드니까요.
